Pijush Biswas formally joined TMC, soon be declare as state president

As expected in a major political development, former Tripura Pradesh Congress president and supremo of  Tripura Democratic Front (TDF) Pijush Kanti Biswas along with five senior leaders formally joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) in New Delhi in presence of TMC’s chairpersons Mamata Banerjee and its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

During the joining programme held at the official residence of TMC’s MP Sougata Roy in New Delhi on Wednesday evening, Biswas along with five senior leaders including Purnita Chakma, former working president of Pradesh Congress, Tejen Das, former general secretary of PCC, Ananta Banerjee, former general secretary of PCC ,Bimal Rudra Paul, former general secretary of PCC and Samarendra Ghosh, former general secretary of Youth Congress.

TMC said that Pijush  Biswas will soon be appointed as the state president of the Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress. The post of president for the Tripura unit of TMC remained vacant  for several months after the removal of Subal Bhowmik.

During the joining programme, TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev, state in-charge Rajib Banerjee, MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar and few other MPs of the party were also present.

It may be recalled here that Pijush Biswas had formed the Tripura Democratic Front (TDF) after he was removed as president of Pradesh Congress Committee and his son, Pujan Biswas , who was the president of TDF had already joined TMC months ago and now working for  TMC as state’s general secretary.

TMC through a press statement said that Pijush Kanti Biswas has had a distinguished political and judicial career, and has in the past held important positions, including that of the Assistant Solicitor General of India. Biswas has also been the former president of the High Court Bar Council and the former chief of National Students’ Union of India.

Welcoming the senior leaders to the party’s fold, AITC Tripura tweeted, “Our family strengthens! With an aim to work for the betterment of Tripura, former INC State President Shri Pijush Kanti Biswas joined our Trinamool family today. We wholeheartedly welcome him to our party! We also welcome senior political leaders from Tripura, Advocate Shri Tejen Das, Advocate Shri Ananta Banerjee, Shri Bimal Rudra Paul, Ms Purnita Chakma and Shri Samarendra Ghosh.”

All the leaders were welcomed by West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC’s Chairperson Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee and hoped that together they would bring credible change to the political landscape of Tripura.
